All City Track and Field Meet

Ross has been participating in track and field this season, and today was the last meet -- the all-city meet. Each kid got to do 3 events, plus a relay. Ross wanted to do the field events, long jump and javelin, so he only ran in the 100 meter dash, plus he was the 3rd leg on his 4 x 100 relay team.

We've had a cold spring, but in the last couple of days, the temperature has soared, and today was pushing 90 degrees. Too hot for a track meet! But the kids stayed hydrated and found shade where they could. I was really glad that Ross wasn't running any distance races today. Here, he's running the 100 meter dash.

Chris got a couple of good shots of him at the javelin event. Notice that they use a plastic, "turbo" javelin, instead of the real thing.

The long jump was in a separate area, away from the stands, so we didn't get to watch him. We were delighted that he placed 6th! Way to go, Ross! His dad was a track guy (mostly high jump and hurdles), so maybe he needs to start coaching Ross on technique....

6th place!

Wow, way to go Ross!

I just got home from the Western Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships where AshLee helped the University of Idaho take second place. Needless to say, I'm a total track geek mom!
